Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)

The University of Mississippi Medical Center’s (UMMC) Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program satisfies the licensure eligibility requirements set forth by the governing body in the State of Mississippi. Students who satisfactorily complete the program will be awarded the DPT degree from the University of Mississippi and are eligible to sit for the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE), which is a requirement for licensure to practice as a physical therapist in all 50 states.  After successful completion of the licensure examination, graduates are required to apply for state licensure. While graduates from the UMMC DPT program will meet licensure eligibility requirements in Mississippi, please be advised that requirements to practice physical therapy may vary from state to state.  

If you are interested in the UMMC DPT program and intend to practice outside the state of Mississippi, please check with the appropriate licensing body in the state where you intend to practice to verify that our program will meet that state’s educational requirements for physical therapy licensure eligibility.  A felony conviction may also affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the exam or to attain state licensure. Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD)

The University of Mississippi Medical Center’s (UMMC) Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program satisfies the licensure eligibility requirements set forth by the governing body in the State of Mississippi.  Students who satisfactorily complete the program will be awarded the OTD degree from the University of Mississippi and, upon accreditation,  will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of the certification examination, the OTD graduate will be an occupational therapist registered (OTR). Then graduates are required to apply for state licensure. While graduates from the UMMC OTD program will meet licensure eligibility requirements in Mississippi, please be advised that requirements for licensure may vary from state to state.  

If you are interested in the UMMC OTD program and intend to practice outside the state of Mississippi, please check with the appropriate licensing body in the state where you intend to practice to verify that our program will meet that state’s educational requirements for occupational therapy licensure eligibility. A felony conviction may also affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the exam or to attain state licensure. Bachelor of Science in Histotechnology (BS HTL)

The University of Mississippi Medical Center’s (UMMC) Bachelor of Science in Histotechnology (BSHTL) degree program satisfies the eligibility requirements set forth by the governing body in the State of Mississippi.  Students who satisfactorily complete the program will be awarded the Bachelor of Science in Histotechnology degree from the University of Mississippi and will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination administered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) to become certified as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician.    Licensure requirments vary by state and some states may require licensure in order to practice.  

If you are interested in the UMMC BSHTL program and intend to practice outside the state of Mississippi, please check with the appropriate licensing body in the state where you intend to practice to verify that our program will meet that state’s educational requirements for histotechnology licensure eligibility. Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (BS MLS)

The University of Mississippi Medical Center’s Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science degree program, satisfies the requirements set forth by the governing body in the State of Mississippi.  Following satisfactory completion of all requirements, the student will be awarded the Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science degree from the University of Mississippi and is eligible to apply to take a national certification examination to become certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT). 

Please be advised that requirements for licensure and/or advanced practice certification/endorsements vary from state to state.  If you are interested in the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science program, please check with the appropriate licensing body in the state where you intend to practice to verify that the desired program will meet the eligibility criteria for the professional credentials you seek.  Links to the different state laws governing this can be found here.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center’s (UMMC) Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences (BSRS) degree program satisfies the licensure eligibility requirements set forth by the governing body in the State of Mississippi. 

Students who satisfactorily complete the program will be awarded the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences degree from the University of Mississippi and will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the radiologic technologist administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). After successful completion of the certification examination, the BSRS graduate will be a registered technologist in radiography [RT(R)]. Then graduates are required to apply for state licensure. While graduates from the UMMC BSRS program will meet licensure eligibility requirements in Mississippi, please be advised that requirements for licensure may vary from state to state.

Master of Science in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MS MRI)

The University of Mississippi Medical Center’s (UMMC) Master of Science in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MSMRI) degree program satisfies the national certification and registration eligibility requirements. Students who satisfactorily complete the program will be awarded the Master of Science in Magnetic Resonance Imaging degree from the University of Mississippi and will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the magnetic resonance imaging technologist administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Please note, a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the examination. After successful completion of the certification examination, the MSMRI graduate will be a registered technologist in magnetic resonance imaging [RT(MR)]. Mississippi does not currently require state licensure for the radiologic technologist who only practices magnetic resonance imaging; however, requirements for licensure may vary from state to state. Master of Science in Nuclear Medicine Technology (MS NMT)

The University of Mississippi Medical Center’s (UMMC) Master of Science in Nuclear Medicine Technology (MSNMT) degree program satisfies the licensure eligibility requirements set forth by the governing body in the State of Mississippi. 

Students who satisfactorily complete the program will be awarded the Master of Science in Nuclear Medicine Technology degree from the University of Mississippi and will be eligible to sit for the national certification examinations for the nuclear medicine technologist administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB). After successful completion of the certification examination, the MSNMT graduate who was already a registered technologist in radiography will also be registered in nuclear medicine technology [RT(R) (N)]. Then graduates are required to apply for state licensure. While graduates from the UMMC MSNMT program will meet licensure eligibility requirements in Mississippi, please be advised that requirements for licensure may vary from state to state.
